TOWN RECORDS

The veteran town-clerk, Josiah FLAGG, in transcribing the subjoined list of births on pages 198, 199 & 200 of Book 1, prefaced it with this statement:

The following is a true copy of a record taken from a leaf of an ancient Record Book which I found among the papers of the late Capt. Hezekiah GATES, who died about fifty years ago.
    Lancaster, March 28th, 1826.

The aged manuscript is in the neat handwriting of Ralph HOUGHTON, the first clerk of Lancaster.

A RECORD OF BIRTHS AND DEATHES

Transcriber's Note:-- Dates are given in the format of day = month year with the month being a number. The dates are most likely "Old Style" where March was the first month of the year.
