James ROBINSON, Middletown. Invt. £2034-02-04. Taken 17 Dec 1740, by Solomon ADKINS, James BROWN & Jonathan ALLIN. Will dated 1 Oct 1740.
I, James ROBINSON of Middletown, in the County of Hartford and Colony of Connecticut, in New England, being advanced in years and weak in body, but of sound disposing mind and memory (thanks be given to God therefor), and calling to mind ye mortallity of my body, knowing that it is appointed for man once to die, do make and ordain this my last will & testament: That is to say, in the first place I give & recommend my soul into the hads of God that gave it when he shall see cause to call for it, and my body to the earth, to a decent buriall; hoping to have free pardon of all my sins through the merits of Jesus Christ, my blessed Redeemer, and to inherit ever lasting life. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hat pleased God to bless me: After my just debts and funerall charges are first paid out of it, I give & devise the remainder in maner and form following, viz: Imprimis. I give and bequeath unto Jane, my well-beloved wife, the use and improvement of all my estate, both real and personall, during the time she remains my widow; but if she shall marry, then my will is that she shall have one-third part of my household goods to be at her dispose, and no more. Item. I give unto my loving daughter and only child, Margaret STUARTT, and to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten, all and every part of my estate, both real and personal, at the decease of my wife; and if my wife shall marry, then and in such case I give to my sd. daughter and her heirs as aforsd. at sd. marriage all my estate, both real & personall, except the aforesd. 1-3 part of my household goods. And I do hereby nominate and constitute & appoint my beloved widow Jane & trusty friend Wm. ROCKWELL to be joynt executors of this my last will & testament, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will & testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the day & year above writen.
