Steel are ordered to take an Inventory of ye said estate according to ye neerest estimatin of of Debts and to prsent it to ye Court in March next.

37. Divorce Filing; 1676; Rhode Island 36. James, who had fled to Rhode Island about 1661, presumably to escape a charge of witchcraft, filed for divorce from 2nd wife Alice Bossey. In court records, he demanded the Court "have his wife .. sent ot him" or "grant him a Bill of divorce." He claimed that Alice Bossey had aborgated her marital vows by refusing to join him. Alice proved to the court's satisfaction that James had engaged in a prenuptial agreement not to remove her from her dwelling in Wethersfield without her consent. The Bench anounced that it saw no grounds to grant either petition, and furthermore, no cause "so to compell ..[Alice] to remove" to Rhode Island.
