EXAMINING COMMITTEE

At a town meeting, 25 Aug 1840, it was voted: That there shall be annually hereafter appointed a committe of three persons to examine those who may apply to be employed as teachers in this town, and if, in the opinion of one or more of said committee, such person is qualified as teacher, such member or members of said committee shall give such person a certificate to that effect; and that no person shall be entitled to receive any of the school money of this town who shall not have received such a certificate of qualification within six months previous to the time of such service as teacher; and, further, that the committee aforesaid be authorized and required to recommend such school books as they think most suitable to be used throughout the town; also to visit the schools and make such suggestions for improvement as they may think proper.
