80. SAMUEL DORRANCE (son of the Rev. Samuel Dorrance and first wife, Elizabeth Smith) was born Oct. 10, 1740. He married first, Alice ----? before March 12, 1776, and settled in what is now the East Quidneck school division, Coventry Tps., Kent Co., R.I., in or soon after 1776. In 1788 or before, he married a second wife, Elizabeth ----? In a deed to his son-in-law, Enoch King - for "about one hundred acres to be taken off the north part of my farm" - dated Oct. 22, 1805, the "sd. Dorrance reserves to himself a burying place of land two rods square in the orchard to the northward of the dwelling house whereon there is several graves now to be seen."
The land deeded to Enoch King, who married Martha Dorrance, is now owned by Alonzo G. Wood. The land and house in which Samuel Dorrance lived and which he left by will to his daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Stephen Wickes, is now owned and occupied by George and Mary (Andrews) Kaarmann.
No evidence has been found that Samuel Dorrance left any sons. "Several graves," perhaps six or seven, are still to be seen in the old burial place - only three of which are marked by stones - and but one of the three, that of Samuel Dorrance himself, bearing an inscription. "Sx Dx AG 72, Aug. 2d 1812"
SAMUEL DORRANCE born Oct. 10, 1740 died Aug. 2, 1812 aged 72 years.
