MAYSVILLE.

Maysville is a small village located six miles from Avonmore. It is in the southeastern part of the Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. It would appear that it reached the peak of its population in 1876. It then had 76 people living there.

Maysville is situated on Long Run, three miles above it's junction with the Kiskiminetas River. A Post Office was established here in 1857. It took the name Of Long Run, since there was another Maysville Post Office in the state. As far us I can learn, this cemetery was never affiliated with any church. It seems to have been a common burial place for all religions. Joseph Orr came to this country from Ireland. His wife's name was June manners. He was a Presbyterian, and an intimate friend of Dr. Alexander Donaldson of Elder's Ridge. He was a grandfather of Dr. Joseph D. Orr of Leechburg. Labanna Townsend came from English parentage. His grandfather Isaac was born in England and came to America in 1775. He married Rachel King. The Townsends were Quakers originally, but married into Lutheran families and became members of that faith. His father was William Townsend (married Elisabeth Shoemaker), Labanne married Julia Armstrong, daughter of Clayton Armstrong. Flora end Margaret are their daughters.

So you see the people buried here are of divers nationalities and religions. They came from different parts of the state soon afer the Revolutionary War. The cemetery is situated on the side of a hill. When we were there in September, 1967 there was a good (dirt) road to it. It was cleaned and in good order. Some of stones were fallen over and some not legible. Grace V. (Mrs. william) Armitage. September 4. 1967.
