From Pastors and People of Somerset Classis, 1940, page 108. The year 1836 marks the beginning of the Beam Congregation. In that year the Rev. H.G. Ibbeken gathered a small congregation in the Rhodes School house at Edie, Pa. For a number of years services were held in this school house, children were catechised and confirmed and the sacraments administered.
In 1841, a need was felt for a church building, and a meeting was called for the selection of a suitable site. After some disagreement as to the site of the building, a frame house of worship was finally erected on the parcel of ground donated for that purpose by Abraham Beam, at the site upon which the present church building stands. The Church was named the Beam German and Reformed Church.
On February 3, 1844, the Rev. H.G. Ibbeken passed to his reward. Following his death the Rev. William Conrad of Berlin, Pa., assumed the duties as Pastor. It is thought that the formal organization of the congregation was effected under Conrad, in June, 1844. On the 12th of June of the same year, the following were admitted to the church by confirmation:-
1. Abm. Kimmel(Bapt);
- 2. Hugh Viant.;
- 3. Henry Sipe.;

On June 14, 1844, the following Officers were elected and installed into office:- Elders: Abraham Beam and Christian Ludy. Deacons: Gillian Walter, Isaac Ankeny, Jonathan Rhodes, & Abraham Simpson. Peter Ankeny, unavoidably absent, could not be installed. His installation was postponed until a later date, but Mr. Ankeny never appeared. Christian Ludy was elected to fill his place. The Lord's Supper administered the following Sunday, June 15th and witnessed by a large congregation, found 33 members and 21 catechumens partaking. On Oct. 1, 1844, Rev. D.B. Ernst became the pastor, from which time preaching services were held every two weeks, alternating between the English and German language. The church was not dedicated until June 7, 1847. Under the pastorate of Rev. H.F. Keener, a new brick church was erected, at a cost of approximately $4100.00. The edifice was dedicated Sept. 7, 1873. At that date there were 105 members. The consistory was composed of Elders, Dr. C.B. Korns, F.E. Airaman, Thomas St. Clair, Noah Gohn, & F.E. Heiple, elder emeritus: Deacons E.E. Heiple, James Bell, Charles Pyle, Lloyd Kimmel, Albert Arnold, Floyd St. Clair, Dorsey St. Clair.
