  • (The same Day [Friday last, June 11] we had here an account of a sad Accident which happened at Woburn that Day. vis: Mr. James Clough, with his apprentice, John Potter, of this Town, Founder, and one Pierce, of Woburn, being in pursuit of a Copper Mine, and in order to come at it they were obliged to break to pieces a large Rock, and charg'd it with Powder sufficient, as they were ramming the broken pieces of Stone upon the Powder, struck Fire, which flew in at a crack that was to the Cane which held the Fuze, and instantly communicated itself to the Powder that was in the bottom of the hole, and blew them up: Mr. Clough lost his right hand then, and had his Arm so broke to pieces, and his left hand burnt to that degree that he had his right Arm and left Hand cut off the next Day; he was also much wounded in his Stomach, and his Stomach, and his Life is in great danger. His Apprentice, John Potter, had his right Arm so burnt that it was that tho't necessary, and accordingly was cut off.
