The widow and those children who were of age signed an agreement Dec. 8, 1692, dividing the estate of George Bruce, deceased, by which William was to have "that place which was appointed by his father in his lifetime, it lying near Samuel Snows house," and John Bruce was to have the homestead with 29 acres. John Bruce died Sept. 7, 1742, possessed of a homestead of 36 acres with an old dwelling-house on it. This homestead was situated on the easterly side of Burlington Street, in Cummingsville, and to the south of the present John Johnson estate now occupied by Mr. Soles. The northerly portion of the latter property, including the present barn and pond was conveyed, in 1767, by John Bruce to Isaac Brooks, who in 1797, conveyed it to Reuben Johnson. In the deed to Brooks it was bounded north on Isabel Bruces Thirds. In 1763, Isabel Bruce, widow, John, Thomas, George, James, and Joseph Bruce convey 12 acres to Joseph Winn, "being parcel of the homestead late of John Bruce, deceased," bounded, beginning at the town road (Burlington Street) thence easterly the back side of the Mansion House, late of said Bruce, deceased, and by the widow Isabel Bruces Thirds, to a stake at the northeast corner of said Thirds; thence south to a stake at Mary Fowles land [present John Johnson estate]; thence east partly by said Marys land and partly by land of Nathaniel Kendall [on Bedford Street and now owned by James Given]: thence north by said Kendalls land to land of Joseph Winn; thence west by said Winns land, thence north, and thence west by land of Thomas Bruce to the road; thence by said road to the beginning.
