Chapter LXXXV - Record of the Service of Greenfield Men in the Revolutionary War - Index

Since the compilation of the "History of Greenfield" the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has finished the publication of the records of the soldiers & sailors of the state (which then included the territories of Maine & New Hampshire) serving during the War for Independence. Hence this list completes the record transcribed by Judge THOMPSON, as Chapter LIX of his work.

"In many instances the name of the town to which the soldier should have been credited does not appear. In such cases, when the soldier served in a Greenfield company, the family name being common to the town and not claimed by other neighboring towns, the name is entered as of Greenfield, with a suggestion that an error may have been made."

The present list begins with volume thirteen, "Massachusetts Soldier & Sailors of the Revolutionary War."
