"You shall fairly & fully serve in the office of a Town Clerk in the town of Eastham for the present year, and so long as by mutual consent the town & you shall agree, -- during which time you shall carefully & faithfully pen all such records you shall be intrusted withall; and shall record all town acts and orders, and shall enter all town grants & conveyances. You shall record all births & marriages & burials, that shall be brought to you within the town; and shall publish all contracts of marriage, you shall be required to do, according to the order of the Court."
