Mr. Wadsworth graduated at Harvard College in 1762, was Tutor from 1770 till 1777, and Fellow from 1774 to 1777; he spent much of his time in the study of metaphysics, and inlogical discussions, in which his superior powers were universally acknowledged. He died, in 1777, of the small-pox, which was then prevalent in Cambridge; and it is said that he had long anticipated death by that disorder, and was greatly alarmed when his physician told him that he had taken it; he had refused inoculation, through fear of the result. A Native of Great Britain, but for many years a citizen of America.
Early formed to havits of mercantile attnetion and industry,
he pursued commerce with activity and success.
After having acquired, with the strictest integrity and honor,
an ample fortune,
he retired from the busy scenes of life, and employed his time,
and applied his income, to useful and rational purposes.
Affability, benevolence, and beneficence, gained him the friendship and esteem
of all ranks of men;
While
Conjugal attention and tenderness, filial duty and piety,
fraternal affection and goodness, gentleness and kindness to domestics,
highly endeared his character to those around him.
Firmly believing and hearily embarcing the Religion of the Gospel ,
he experienced its divine truths, happily influencing him through life,
inspiring him with patience and resignation, under great bodily distresses,
and ministering strong consolation and hope in death
which released him from his sufferings.
May XXVI, An. Dom. MDCCXCVII. in the LX year of his age.
