Deed from James WRIGHT to Christopher LAY
Know all men by these presents that I James WRIGHT of Saybrook in the County of New London & Colony of Connecticut in New England for a valuable Consideration to me in hand received and paid by Christopher LAY of the aforesaid Saybrook in the County & Colony aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have given granted Bargained Sold conveyed & confirmed unto him the said Christopher LAY his heirs and assigns forever A certain tract of land lying & being in the Township of Saybrook in Oyster River Quarter, on the South end of Ephraim KELSEY's land & running South Thirty five rods to a Stake with stones about it the end of a Hill called Race Hill beginning at the Southeast corner of said KELSEY's land & Running South Thirty five rods to a stake thirty five rods to a Stake with stones about it at the end of a cross fence that puts out to highway, and from thence running Westerly to the edge of the Mill pond to where there is a old fence that runs into said pond to a stake with stones about it and from thence Running Northerly round by the edge of said pond to where the water flows at the highest forty two rods to a white oak tree which is the standered in the line between Saybrook and Killingworth, and from thence running Easterly to the first mentioned corner, Bounded East on a highway, South on my own land & West on the edge of the Mill Pond to where the water flows at the highest North partly on Benj. WRIGHT's land & partly on said Ephraim KELSEY's land.
To Have and to Hold all the above described land with a Mansion House thereon standing together with half of the fences thereof to it, the half on the North side and the half on the South side with all the privilledges & appurtenances thereof to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Christopher LAY his heirs & assigns forever and I the said James WRIGHT for myself my heirs &c., hereby covenant and grant to and with the said Christopher LAY his heirs and assigns That I am sole Owner of the premises and have good right & lawful Authority to convey ye same as abovesaid and that here & forever hereafter it shall be lawfull for the said Christopher LAY his hers and assigns by force of these presents to enter upon have hold use posses and enjoy the above granted premises without any Incumbrances in the law whatsoever. And I the said James WRIGHT for myself my heirs &c., ingage the above Demised premises unto him the said Christopher LAY his heirs and assigns against all the Claims & Demands of all persons whomsoever here after To Warrant Secure & Defend.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of November A. D. 1747.
