Deed from James WRIGHT to John CURTIS
To all Christian People to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I James WRIGHT of Say-Brook in ye County of New London & Colony of Connecticut In New England for & in Consideration of ye sum of Two Hundred pounds Currant money to me in hand paid before ye ensealing & delivery hereof by John CURTIS of Wethersfield in his Majesties Colony of Connecticut Treasurer of ye New London Society United for trade & Commerce: ye Receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have give granted bargained sold & by these presents Do fully freely & absolutely give grant bargain aliene Convey & confirm unto the said John CURTIS Treasurer as abovesaid & to his successors to ye use of ye society aforesaid forever one certain tract of land situated in said Saybrook in s'd New London County. Butted & Bounded North by the County road that goes from Killingworth to Saybrook & West by the same road. South by Mannucketeset River. East by ye land of Joseph WATERHOUSE containing thirty acres more or less,
To Have and to Hold the said granted & bargained Premises with all ye appurtainances priveledges & Commodities to ye same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him ye said John CURTIS in his aforesaid Capacity & to his successors & to ye use of ye society aforesaid forever & I the said James WRIGHT for myself my heirs executors and administrators Do Covenant & Grant to and with ye said John CURTIS & his successors that before the ensealing hereof I am the true sole & lawfull owner of ye above Bargained premises and am thereof seized in fee simple & have in myself good Right to convey the same in manner as abovesaid and that the said John CURTIS & his successors to ye use afores'd shall & may by vertue of these presents lawfully & Peaceably have hold & enjoy the said Bargained Premises & appurtainances free & clear & clearly acquitted & Discharged of & from all manner of former Gifts Grants Bargains Sales mortgages wills Intails Joynters judgments Incumbrances & Troubles whatsoever & In such Possessin he ye said James WRIGHT his heirs executors & administrators him the said John CURTIS & his successors to the use aforesaid against ye lawfull claims of any person or Persons whatsoever shall & will by these Presents forever hereafter Warrant & Defend Provided nevertheless and it is the true Intent & meaning of Grantor & Grantee in these presents any thing herein contained to ye contrary notwithstanding that if ye above named James WRIGHT his Heirs Executors administrators or assigns Do well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the above named John CURTIS in his capacity as aforesaid or to his successors to ye use as aforesaid the sum of two Hundred pounds Currant money either in Bullion or Silver money at sixteen shillings per ounce or in true Bills of Public Credit of this Colony or of the neighboring Government or ye like sum in Bills Emitted by the New London Society united for trade and commerce upon ye credit of said Society & that on or before the twenty fifty Day of October which will be in ye year of our Lord Christ one thousand Seven hundred & fourty four. The above written Deed &every Clause & article therein contained shall be null & void & of none effect.
In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh Day of December in ye fifty year of ye Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second of Great Brittain & King
