Deed from Samuel WILLEY to the Proprietors

Know all men by these presents that I Samuel WILLEY of the Town of Lyme in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England for and in consideration of a piece of land laid out to me by the Committe of Oyster River Quarter & secured in a Survey Bill bearing date with these presents & referring hereto have given granted conveyed and do by these presents give grant sell & confirm unto the Proprietors of Oyster River quarter a slip of land in said quarter in the Township of Saybrook through my land which I bought of Jonathan CHAPMAN of two rods and a half wide. To enter my land on the South side of a heap of stones in the east line of my said land which is Joseph CLARK's Jun'r Southwest Corner and to run Westerly to the foot of the hill and then more Southerly up the hill and then Southwesterly to the Western line of my land, where it goeth out of my land on the West side of a Root Blown up a little to the Northward of Joseph CLARK's Barn.

To have and to Hold the above slip of land with the appurtenances unto them the said Proprietors their heirs & successors forever for the use of a Public Highway and I the said Sam'll WILLEY do for myself my heirs executors & administrators Covenant with the said Proprietors their heirs and assigns that at and untill the ensealing of these presents I am Lawfully seized of the premises as a good & Infedeasible estate in fee simple & have good right to bargain & sell the same in Manner & form as is above written and that the same is free of all Incumbrances whatsoever

And furthermore I the said Sam'll WILLEY do bind myself & my heirs forever to Warrant Secure & defend the above granted & bargained premises to them the said Proprietors of said quarter their heirs and assigns against all claims and demands whatsoever.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 27th day of December A.d. 1748
