To all People to whom these Presents shall come Greeting; Know ye that I Benjamin MERRILL of Say-Brook in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds in Currant money to me in hand well and truly paid before or at the ensealing hereof by Benjamin CARTER of Killingworth aforesaid the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge of full satisfaction have given granted bargained sold conveyed unto him ye said Benjamin CARTER his heirs assigns forever a certain tract of land situated in the Township of Say-Brook in the County and Colony aforesaid lying Southerly of the little Chestnut Hill Beginning at a Wallnutt Tree Running thence Northerly Ninety four rods to a Black Oak Tree marked stones four rods to a Black Oak tree marked stones cast about it, thence East wardly Sixty eight rods to a Chestnutt tree stones Cast about it thence Southerly Seventy one rods to Wallnutt tree stones cast about it thence Westerly thirty four rods to first mentioned corner containing Twenty acres of land be it more or less as it lyes butted and bounded Westerly by the land of said Benjamin CARTER part and partly by Common land Northerly by the land of Samuel PLATTS Easterly by the land of Joseph CARTER and Southerly by land of Robert CARTER.
To hold the above granted and bargained premises to him ye said Benjamin CARTER his heirs & assigns forever to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof for ever with ye appurtenances priviledges and Commodities to the same belonging or in anywise Appertaining freely and clearly acquitted and discharged of and from all former gifts grants bargains sales or any Incumbrances in the law whatsoever and I the said Benjamin MERRILL for my self my heirs executors and administrators do covenant promise and grant to and with ye said Benjamin CARTER his heirs and assigns that at and until the ensealing hereof I am the true sole and lawfull owner of the above demised premises and have in myself good right full power and lawfull authority to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written and furthermore I the said Benjamin MERRILL do for myself me heirs executors and administrators Covenant promise and ingage the above granted premises to him the said said Benjamin CARTER his heirs and assigns against the lawfull claims or demands of any person or persons whomsoever forever hereafter to Warrant and Defend.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of May A. D. 1742 and in the 15th year of the Reign of Our Soverign Lord George ye 2nd of Great Brittain &c.,
