Deed from Benjamin MERRELL to Benjamin CARTER
To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I Benjamin MERRELLS of Killingworth in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty six pounds money of the old tenor to me in hand paid by Benjamin CARTER of said Killingworth the Receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge to full satisfaction Have given granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed unto him the said Benj. CARTER his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land Scituate lying and being in the Township of Saybrook in Oyster River Quarter and it is bounded Westward on said Killingworth line 56 rods, North partly on Common land & partly on Robert CARTER's land Easterly on land laid out to William BARBER Dec'd and Southerly on land laid out to Mr. Ebenezer STEVENS, the said tract of land contains thirteen acres and Eighty six rods.
To Have and to Hold the above granted and bargained premises with ye appurtenances privileges & Commodities to ye same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Benj. CARTER his heirs and assigns forever to his and their own proper use benefit and Behoof. And also I the said Benjamin MERRELLS for myself my heirs executors and administrators Do Covenant promise and grant to and with ye said Benjamin CARTER that before and untill the ensealing hereof I am the true sole & lawfull owner of said bargained premises & am seized of the same in my own proper Right as a good Indefeasible estate in fee simple and have in myself good right full power & lawfull authority to convey the premises in manner and form as is above written and that ye premises are free from all incumbrances whatsoever, More over I the said Benj'n MERRELL for myself my heirs executors & administrators Do promise and Ingage the said granted and bargained premises to him the said Benjamin CARTER his heirs and assigns against all the lawfull claims and demands of any person or persons whatsoever hereafter to Warrant Secure and Defend-
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of May 1744, in the 17th year of his Majesties Reign &c.,
