Deed from Robert LAY to Jared SPENCER

To all People to whome these presents shall Come Greeting &c Know ye that I Robert LAY of Say Brook in ye County of New London & Colony of Connecticut in New England Taylor for and in Consideration of a certain parcell of meadow Land made over to be by a deed of sale bearing date with these presents from under the hand & seal of Jared SPENCER of Say Brook in ye County of New London together with the consideration of thirty shillings well and truly paid by s'd SPENCER before signing & sealing hereof have given granted sold aliened exchanged conveyed and confirmed & by these presents do freely fully and absolutely give grant sell aliene exchange convey & confirm unto him the said Jared SPENCER his heirs and assigns forever a certain parcell or tract of land being & lying at a place commonly called the head of Stoney brook Swamp in ye county aboves'd in ye Township of Say Brook bounded west on land of Sam'll CHAPMAN north on Common East to land that was laid out to Sam'll STANNARD Southwardly the Southwest Corner is a Chestnut standing by the head of stoney brook swamp & Easterly by said LAY's Land untill it comes to said STANNARD's Land. To Have & to hold the said granted & bargained premises with all the appurtainances preveleges & Commodities to ye same belonging or in anywise appertaining to him the said Jared SPENCER his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof forever & I ye said Robert LAY for myself my heirs executors & administrators Do Covenant Promise & Grant to and with the said Jared SPENCER his heirs and assigns that before the Insealing hereof I am the true sole & lawfull owner of ye above bargained premises and am lawfully seized & possessed of the same in mine own proper right as a good perfect and absolute estate of Inheritance in fee simple and have in my self good right full power & lawfull authority to grant bargain sell exchange convey & Confirm said bargained presmises in manner as aboves'd and the said Jared SPENCER his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times for ever hereafter by force & virtue of these presents lawfully peaceably & quietly have hold use occupie possess and Injoy ye said Demised & bargained premises with the appurtainances free & clear & freely & clearly acquitted exonerated and discharged of from all manner of former and other gifts grants sales leases mortgages wills Intails or any other Incumbrances whatsoever furthermore I ye said Robert LAY for me my heirs executors & administrators Do Covenant & Ingage the above Demised premises to him ye said Jared SPENCER his heirs and assigns against the lawfull claims or demands of any person or persons whatsoever forever here after to Warrant Secure & Defend in further testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of August in ye third year of the Reign of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George Kind of Great Brittain Anno Domini 1716
