          This Indenture, made the Third day of January - one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven Between Ira Shaler of the city and county of New York party of the first part and Solomon Shaler of the town of Haddam, County of Middlesex, State of Connecticut party of the second part, Witnesseth, That the said party of the first part, in consideration of Forty Dollars to me duly paid before the delivery hereof, has bargained and sold, and by these presents do - grant and convey to the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns for ever, all the one half of that certain piece, lot, or parcel of undivided land situate, lying and being in the town of Haddam aforesaid near the dwelling house of Comfort Ray, beginning in the line of the heirs of Asa Rutty at a black oak tree, thence running easterly forty six rods in a line of Arnold Tylers land, to a walnut staddle with stones about it, Thence Southerly thirty eight rods in a line of land owned by Cynthia Smith to a white oak stub. Thence northerly forty three rods in a line of land owned by Comfort Ray and Philemon Scovil to a stake and stones. Thence to the first mentioned bound in the line of land owned by the heirs of Asa Rutty. Containing about seven acres be the same more or less with the appurtenances, and all the estate, title and interest of the said party of the first part therein. And the said party of the first part does hereby covenant and agree with the said party of the second part, that at the time of the delivery hereof, the said party of the first part is the lawful owner of the premises above granted, and seised thereof in fee simple absolute, and that he will Warrant and Defend the above granted premises in the quiet and peaceable possession of the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, for ever.

          In Witness whereof, the said party of the first part has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.
