Deed from Jedidiah CHAPMAN to Sergent John STANNARD
Know all Men by these presents that I Jedidiah CHAPMAN of Saybrook in the County of New London & Colony of Connecticut in New England, for the consideration of the sum of two hundred and thirty seven pounds & ten shillings in bills of Credit of the old tenor to me in hand paid by Sergent John STANNARD of the same Saybrook have given granted bargained sold and by these presents do freely & absolutely give grant Bargain sell convey & confirm unto him the said John STANNARD his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of upland & swamp lying in said Saybrook in ye quarter of Oyster River at a place commonly called the old Iron Mine containing fifty acres be the same more or less Bounded in Manner following viz: Northerly on land of Nath'll CLARK Esq: Easterly on land left for a highway between said fifty acres & land belonging to sd CLARK Southerly on the land of sd CLARK and Westerly on said CLARK's land and part on my own land, ye Northeast Corner is a small Crotched white oak tree marked with Sundry chops upon it & from thence running Southerly to a Crotched Dogwood Stadle by a ledge of rocks which Dogwood is the South east Corner and running Westwardly to a small Chestnut tree marked with W.B: and stones about it and from thence running about Northwest to a small Ash Stadle standing in a Valley & Stones about it and from thence to a large Crotched white oak tree.
To Have and to Hold all and singular the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof to him the said John STANNARD his heirs and assigns forever as a good estate of Inheritance in Fee simple and that at ye ensealing hereof I am well seized of ye Premises & have good right to convey ye same and that it is free of all Incumbrances whatsoever, furthermore I the said Jedidiah CHAPMAN Do Covenant and ingage for myself my heirs executors &c., To Warrant & defend ye above granted premises to him ye said John STANNARD & his heirs forever against ye claims of any person or persons in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this Seventeeth day of March and in ye 19th year of our Majesties Reign Annoque Domini 1746.
