Deed from Robert CARTER to Joseph MERRELL
Entered August ye 13 1723
To All Christian people to whome these present shall Come Greeting Know ye that I Robert CARTER of Killingworth in the County of New london and Coloney of Conecticut in New England Carpenter for and In Consideration of the sum of fourteen pounds Currant money of the Coloney to me in hand before the Ensealing here of well and truly paid by Joseph MERRELL of the town County and Coloney afores'd Joynes Have Given Bargained, sold, alienated Conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents from unto him the s'd Joseph MERRELL his heirs and assigns forever two certain parcells or tracts of upland situate lying and being in the -er quarter in the Township of Killingworth afore s'd (viz) first a piece of Lying in Breadth Eleven rods in length from the Country Road or Common fence northerly to the highway southerly Containing one acre and a quarter more or less Bounded Southwesterly by the parsonage and north Easterly by the land of Joseph KELCEY. Secondly also one acre and a quarter of Land more or less in length thirty one Rods in Breadth six Rods and a half Bounded south Easterly & north Easterly by the Land of John HULL southwesterly by the Land ? by George SANDERSES and northwesterly by the highway: To Have and to Hold the above Granted and Bargained premises with all the appurtenances priviledges Right in Commons or after Divisions whatsoever thereunto belonging any waies apertaining to him the s'd Joseph MERRELL his heirs and assigns to his and their only propper use benefit and behoof forever and I the s'd Robert CARTER for my self my heirs Executors Administrators Do Covenant Grant and promise to and with the s'd Joseph MERRELL his heirs and assigns that before the Ensealing of these presents I am the true sole and Lawfull owner of the above Granted and Bargained premises and have in my self good Right full power and Lawfull authority to bargain and sell the same In manner of above s'd and that the s'd Joseph MERRELL his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times forever here after by force and vertue of these presents Lawfully and peaceably and quietly Have Hold use occupie possess & Injoy the above bargained and Granted premises with the appurtenances free and Clear freely and Clearly acquired Exonerated and discharged of an from all and all manner of other or former Gifts Grants mortgages wills Jynturs Dowryes Entayles or Incumbrances In the Law whatsoever moreover I the s'd Robert CARTER for my self my heirs Exeuctiors Administrators Do Covenant and Ingage the above Granted and Bargained premises to him the s'd Joseph MERRELL his heirs & assigns against all the Lawfull Claims or Demands of any person or persons whome so Ever here after forever to warrant secure and defend In witness hereof I the s'd Robert CARTER have here unto set my hand and seale this 2d day of August Anno Dominie seventeen hundred and twenty three and in the tenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George King of Great Britain &c

The with in named Robert CARTER personally apeared before me this 2d Day of August 1723 and acknowledged the signing and sealing of the within written Instrument to be his free act and deed before me Abra'm PIERSON Justice of peace
