Deed from Joseph CARTER to Daniel LAY

To all People to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye That I Joseph CARTER of Saybrook in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England for the consideration of twenty pounds fourteen shillings in old tenor Bills of Credit to me paid by Daniel Lay of Saybrook aforesaid have granted and sold and do by these presents give grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said LAY his heirs and assigns forever Three acres & seventy two rods of land in Oyster River Quarter in Saybrook aforesaid lying on the West side of Hoop-hill Beginning at a heap of stones & running west fifty rods to a heap of stones and running north nine rods to a heap of stones and running East forty two rods to a heap of stones and running South fifteen rods to the first mentioned bound. And this piece of land is bounded East on highway & South on aforesaid Joseph CARTER's land and West on Sam'll PLATS land and North on foresaid Daniel LAY's land, which land I do convey unto the aforesaid Daniel LAY to have and to hold the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof unto him the said Daniel LAY his heirs & assigns forever to his & their own proper use and behoof. And also I the said Joseph CARTER do for myself my heirs & assigns executors and administrators Covenant with the said Daniel LAY his heirs and assigns That at and untill the ensealing of these presents I am well seized of the premises as a good Indefeasible estate in fee simple and have good right to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written and that the same is free of all incumbrances whatsoever. And furthermore I the said Joseph CARTER do by these presents bind myself my heirs forever to Warrant and Defend ye above granted and bargained against all claims and demands whatsoever.

In Witness Whereof I have here unto set my hand & seal the 7th day of July in the Nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George ye second of great Brittain &c. King Annoque Domini 1746.
