Entered April ye 28th 1740

To all people to whom these presents Shall Come Greeting Know ye that I Robert CARTER of Killingworth in the County of Newlondon and Coloney of Conecticut in New England for & in consideration of the parental Love Good will and affection that I Have & Do bare towards my Loveing & Dutyful Son Nathaniel CARTER of the afore s'd Killingworth Have Given Granted and mad over Conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents Do fully freely and absolutly give Grant make over Convey and Confirm unto him the s'd Nathaniel CARTER his heirs and assigns forever a Certain tract or parcel of Land scituate lying and being at a place Called Sopus near a meadow Called CRANE's meadow bounded as followeth (viz) begining at the southeasterly Corner near Saybrook line at a stak and heap of stons Runing thence westerly to a Black oak staddle stons about it thence southerly to a white oak stree standing in the line between John CARTER's and Benj'n CARTER's Land thence northwesterly to a Black oak tree marked stons cast about it thence Easterly to a Chestnut tree marked standing in Saybrook line thence southerly to the first mentioned Corner bit it for quataty or number of acres more or Less Bounded Easterly by Saybrook line southerly by Benjamin CARTER's Land west by John CARTER's Land and northerly In part by the Land of Ens'n John SHETHER and party by the Land of Sam'll PLATTS To Have and To Hold the above granted premises to him the s'd Nathaniel CARTER his heirs and assigns forever for his and their only propper use benifit and behoof forever (reserveing the Improvement of what part of the above premises I shall have acasien for or se cause to Improve During the ? of min & my wife's natural lives) and I the s'd Robart CARTER for my self my heirs Executors and administrators Do promis and Engage the above granted premises to him the s'd Nathaniel CARTER his heirs & assigns and that before the Ensealeing of these presents I am the true sole and Lawfull owner of the above granted premises And have in my self good Right full power and Lawfull authority to dispos of the same in manner of above s'd and that the s'd Nathaniel CARTER his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times forever here after by force and vertue of these presents Lawfully peaceably and quietly have hold use occupie possess and Injoy the above granted premises withe appurtenances (Excepting ? of above Excepte) other wise free and Clear freely and Clearly acquitted Exonerated and discharged of and from all and all manner of former or other gifts grants Bargains sales or incumbrances in the Law whatsoever and further more I the s'd Robart CARTER Do promise and Engage the above granted premises to him the s'd Nathaniel CARTER his heirs and assigns against the Lawfull Claimes or Demands of any person or persons whomsoever forever hereafter to warrant secure and Defend In witness whereof I the s'd Robart CARTER have here unto set my hand and seale this twenty fourth Day of April AD 1746
