Deed from Robert BATE to Elisha CLARKE

Know all men by these presents that I Robert BATE of Say-Brook In ye County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England for ye consideration of Seventeen Pounds money to me in hand well and truly paid by Mr. Elisha CLARK formerly of Middletown now of Say-Brook have given & granted & by these presents Do fully and freely & absolutely give grant bargain aliene convey and confirm unto him the said CLARKE his heirs & assigns one certain piece of land lying in Chester Parish in Say-Brook aforesaid containing two acres & a half & is bounded West on a piece of land sold to Sam'll CARTER, South on land of said CARTER & North on Highway Running from said piece land I sold to CARTER Eastward to or towards two Maple Stadles on the South side of the River & so to extend Eastward by said Highway (Including the River) so far as to make up ye two acres & a half.

To Have and to Hold ye above granted and bargained premises with ye appurtenances to him ye said Elisha CLARKE his heirs and assigns forever to his & their own proper use & behoof & also I the said Robert BATE Do for myself my heirs executors & administrators Covenant with ye said Elisha CLARKE his heirs and assigns that at and until the ensealing hereof I am Lawfully seized of the premises as a good Indefeasible estate in fee simple and have Good Right to bargain & sell the same In manner & form as is above written & that & that the same is free of all incumbrances whatsoever & furthermore I the said Robt. BATE do by these presents Bind myself my heirs forever to Warrant & Defend ye above granted and bargained premises to him the said Elisha CLARKE his heirs & assigns against ye lawfull Claims & Demands of any person or persons whatsoever.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand & seal this ninth day of June A.D. 1744.
