Town Meeting Decision for William DUDLEY and John WHITTLESEY

Ffeb 7th 1675 Att Town Meeting it was voated and agreed that William DUDLEY and John WHITTLESEY should have a piece of Land Between the Orchyard that was Major MASON's and the Water side thirteen Rod in Length and five in Breadth Leaving five Rod for a highway next the Water side This the Town doth give them Provided they doe make Improvement upon it by Building a house upon it within a year Notwithstanding they are not hereby to neglect the work of the ffery

Know all men by these Presents, that I Simon HUNTINGTON Inhabitant in the Town of Norwich in the County of New London in the Colony of Connecticut ffor divers good Causes & Considerations mee moveing thereunto but Especially for and in Consideration of five pounds sterling by bill to me secured before the dealing and delivery hereof. Have Bargained Sold alienated Confirmed and made over and doe by these presents Bargain Sell Alienate & make over unto John WHITTLESEY of Saybrook of the same County & Colony aforesaid one parcell of upland scituate lying and being in the southwest Corner of Potopague Quarter Containing Twenty acres Lying in Length seventy seven Rod Northwest & Southeast and is in Breadth at the Northwest end Twenty Eight Rod; at the south East anf ffifty six Rod and is bounded on the South west side by a highway that Runs between the said Land & the mill pond on the North west side by the Common upland on the Northeast side by a ledge of Rocks, on the Southeast side by the Common upland from me and my heirs to him and his heires for ever. To Have hold Possess and quietly enjoy the s'd Land with all and singular the Priviledges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining Without Lett trouble or molestation either by me or any for me or in my name and I doe also Engage to Clear the said Land from all former Bargains, Sales, Rates, Mortgages or other Incumbrances before day of the date hereof for and in Consideration as above specified I have granted this my deed of sale Whereunto I have sett to my hand and seal this Seventeenth of June in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred Seventy nine

Then Layd out for Ens'n Jn'o PRATT one piece of Land Containing Sixty four acres at a place Called Buskley hill within potopoge Quarter & is thus Bounded North upon the Great River East & South upon Common Land & West upon twelve mile Cove or boggs, its from ye Great River to a White Oak Tree standing upon a Ledge of Rocks from the tree ye Great River a north Line Eighty Six Rods from the afores'd stadle west it Runs to a White ash tree standing by the afores'd Cove or sunken marshy Land between ye tree & Stadle it is Eighty six Rods ye tree is ye South west Corner & ye stadle is ye South East Corner both of which Trees are marked with JP and Stons Laid at the Root of them in which boundaries there is Sixty four acres, forty of which was given by ye proprietors of s'd Quarter in full of all his Right as he was Eldest son. He ye said PRATT doth Quit ye said proprietors from any further Claim or Demand to be made by him or any other whatsoever upon his Right. Ye other twenty four acres was his part of 100 Pound Right that was John BURCHARD's Dec'd & in full of that Right allso to him s'd John PRATT, the Land Lies but for Sixty acres allthough there is Sixty four of it four of which for mendment of Land Layd out by us the day & date aboves'd

This Indenture made the Seventeeth day of November in the Thirteenth year of the Reign of Soveraign Lord William the Third of England &c King: Between Stephen POS of Say-Brook in the County of New London and Collony of Connecticut in New England on the one Part and Ensign John PRATT of Say-Brook in the County and Collony aforesaid on the other Part: Witnesseth that the said Stephen POST for divers good Causes and Considerations him There unto moving and Expecially for and in Consideration of ffive acres of upland and meadow in the Township of Say Brook aforesaid and in a certain place Commonly called and known by the name of penny Wise Bounded as by a deed of Sale bearing date with these presents together with halfe an hundred pound Right in that land Commonly the Ox pasture in the said Township of Say Brook and also the aming or workmanship of a pair of plow Irons and Twenty Shillings value in Smithing Work to be done and performed or to be Caused to be done and performed by the said Ensign John PRATT his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns. Have Bargained Sold given granted: Exchanged alienated Infeoffed and Confirmed and doe by these presents Bargain give Sell grant Exchange alienate Infeoff and Confirm unto the said Ensign John PRATT his heirs Executors administrators and assigns a Certain tract and parcell of Land Lieing and being in the Township of Say-Brook and in a Certain place Commonly Called and known by the name of the Old ox pasture Bounded Westward on the highway Northward on the Land Lieut. John CLARKE Eastward on the Coave to high water mark and South on the Land which was Capt. Samuel JONES: Containing by Estimation ffive acres be it more or less:

To Have and to hold all and Singular the afore Bargained Lands Woods ffences priviledges benefits Rights members proprieties and appurtenances in any kind or manner whatsoever to all any and every the afore Bargained premises belonging or appertaining unto the said Ensign John PRATT his heirs Executors administrators or assigns and to his and there sole and only use Benefitt and Behoofe for ever free and Clear from all other or former Bargains Sales guifts grants alienations, Tytles, Dowries, Claimes and demands whatsoever and that I the said Stephen POST at and before the Ensealing and delivery hereof have in my selfe full Right power and Lawfull authority to Sell alienate and dispose of the same and I the said Stephen POST for me my heirs Executors administrators and assigns for ever and doe hereby Render and give unto the said Ensign PRATT full Possession Seacia and delivery of the afore Bargained premises and that he shall or may use occupy dispose and improve the same without the Lett Suite disturbances Eviction Ejection or deny all of me the said Stephen POST or any other Person or Persons Lawfully Claiming by from or under me or by my default means or procurement In Confirmation whereof I the said Stephen POST have to these presents Sett my hand and seal in Say-Brook the day and year above written Anno Domini One thousand and Seven hundred and one.-memorandum the above Eastward Bounds to the Cove as it is to be understood so far as the upland goes.

Wittness all men by these Presents That I William PARKER of Say-Brook in the Colonie of Connecticut for and in Consideration of fourteen Pounds paid to mee by Robert LAY of the Town and Colonie aforesaid doe sell and Doe by these Presents Sell Bargain and make over to the aforesaid Robert LAY his heirs Executors administrators or assigns my wholl proportion of Meadow Belonging to a two hundred Pound Estate Lying and being in the meadow Called Eight mile meadow abutting East to the Great River and West to the Coave North and South to the Lands of John WESTALL: which said Parsell of Land I doe by these Presents declare to be the aforesaid Robert LAY's: and doe Ingage that he shall quietly Possess and enjoy the same: him his heirs Executors and administrators and assigns for ever and this is the true Intent and meaning of the Premises I have hereunto Sett my hand this sixteenth Day of January 1662

Wittness all men by these Presents that I William HYDE Late of Say-Brook in the Colony of Connecticut have for divers good Causes and Considerations mee hereunto moveing. Bargained Sold, alienated and made over unto Robert LAY and doe by these Presents Bargain sell alienate & make over unto the said Robert LAY: all my dwelling house with all other buildings together with all these several parcels of Land beloning unto mee Lieing and being at a place Commonly Called Potepauge with all Commonages & othe accomocations there unto Belonging with all my Right tytle Claime & interest thereunto or to my Part thereof all which several parcells of Land are here under subscribed all which housing and Land I doe Bargain Sell alienate make over and deliver up unto him the said Robert LAY his heirs Exeuctors and assigns To have hold Possess & Enjoy as his and their own proper Right Title and Interest without any Lett hinderence or molestation whatsoever and for due Performance of the Premises, I the said William HYDE bind myselfe my heirs Executors administrators and assigns all and every of them firmly of these presents In Wittness whereof I hae hereunto Sett my hand and Seal this 23d day of November Anno Domini 1660

2. Six acres of meadow Lieing in Eight mile meadow more or less Bounded on Robert LAY's Land on the North: & John WESTALL on the South the Great River on the East, the Coave on the west.

3. Six acres of meadow more or less In Eight mile meadow Bounded on the North with Mr FFENWICK's Land: William PRATT on the South the Great River on the East the Coase on the West.

4. Two hundred Pound Commonage Thereunto belonging with all Lands hereafter to be Laid out by Division pertaining to the Premises.

Know all men by these presents That I William HYDE of Mohegan Do acknowledge to have Received of Robert LAY of Six mile Island the full & Just Sum of fourty pound It which was the full payment as is specified in the agreement made ye 25th Day of January 1659: for all the Lands which I had at Potopauge. Both upland and meadow & commonage which I sold to the s'd Robert LAY his heirs Executors, administrators or assigns for ever, as Wittness my hand this 5th day of May 1660

This Indenture mad ye Seventeeth day of March in the year of Our Lord God one thousand Six hundred Sixty and Six and in the Eighteenth year of ye Reign of our gracious Soverainge Lord Charles ye Second by the grace of God of England Scotland ffrance Ireland and Dominions thereunto belonging King Defender of ye ffaith &c Between John WESTALL of Say-Brook in ye County of Connecticut yeoman of ye one partie and Robert Lay of Say-Brook and County aforesaid yeoman of ye other partie. Wittnesseth that ye said John WESTALL for divers good Causes & Considerations him hereunto moving But more Especially for and in Consideration of ye sum of ffourty pounds Sterling in hand paid the said John by the said Robert for which Sume ye aforesaid John doth hereby acknowledge & Confess, to have Received and thereof and from doth hereby these presents Exonerate acquit Release and discharge ye said Robert his heirs Executors administrators and assigns Hath Given Granted alienated Enfeoffed Bargained and Sold and doth by these presents Give grant alien Enfeoffe Bargain Sell and Confirme to the said Robert his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns for ever all his Right title & Interest of two hundred and fifty pounds Lot or Estate in upland meadow and Commonage Scituate Lieing & being in Patapoge Quarter in the County aforesaid that is or hereafter shall be Laid out with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging Butting and Bounded as hereafter Expressed That is to say ffifty two acres of Land in ye first division more or less Beginning at a gutter Comonly Caled the first gutter on the South Rising out of ye woods westward Running East or Southeast into ye coave: the Commonage or highway on ye West side on ye Northwest or North Commonly Called ye falls River and ye Coave on ye Northeast side, To have hold occupie Possess and enjoy all and Singular ye above said Bargained and Sold Premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said Robert his heirs executors administrators and assigns out of ye aforesaid Two hundred and ffifty Pounds Lott or Estate, fifty Pound Lott or estate of ye Commonage, and one hundred pound Lott or Estate of ye Commonage which was formerly Sold by ye said John to one Zackery SANFORD of Say-Brook aforesaid. The meadow Land being two Lotts Scituate Lieing & being in Eight mile meadow Doth butt and Bound as followeth: One parcell thereof to ye East of ye great River North to the Land of ye said Robert, formerly Bought of William HIDE South to the Lands of the said Robert bought of William PARKER and West to ye Coave. The other Parcell or Lott Butting and Bounding East to the Great River, West to ye cove North to ye lands of said Robert Lately Bought of William PARKER and South to ye lands of said Robert formerly bought of John LAY Sen'r and further the said John Doth for himself his heirs Executors administrators and assigns Covenant Promise and agree to an with the said Robert his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns To Save and keep harmless the said Robert his heirs Executors administrators and assigns off and from all former Sales, grants, mortgages and Like wise off and from all Person and Persons whatsoever that shall hereafter Lay any Claim title or Interest to the aforesaid Bargained & Sold premises or to any part or parcell there of B said John or any person else by his order.

This Indenture made the six and twentyeth Day of March in the year of Our Lord God One thousand six hundred Sixty and nine, and in the one and twentieth year of the Reigns of Our Gracious Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second by the Grace of God of England Scotland france & Ireland and Dominions thereunto Belonging King defender of the faith &c Between Robert LAY of Say-Brook in the Colonie of Connecticut yeouman of the one partie and John TULLY of Say-Brook and Colonie aforesaid yeoman of the other partie. Wittnesseth that the said Robert LAY for divers good Causes and Considerations him hereunto moving But more Especially for and in Consideration of the sume of Ninety Pound Sterling in hand Paid the said Robert by the said John for which Sume the aforesaid Robert doth hereby acknowledge and Confess to have Received and thereof & from doth here by these presents Exonerate acquit Release and discharge the said John his heirs Executors administrators and assigns Hath given Granted alienated Enfeoffed, Bargained and Sold and doth by these presents give grant alien Enfeoffe Bargain Sell and Confirm to the said John his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever all his Right title & interest of Two hundred and fifty Pound Lott or Estate in upland and meadow scituate Lying and being in Pattapoge Quarter in the Colonie aforesaid that is already Laid out as it here following Expressed and that shall hereafter be Laid out according to a two hundred and fifty pounds Estate as aforesaid together with a hundred Pound Right or priviledge in Commonage with all the appurtenances there unto belonging Butting and Bounding as here after is expressed that is to say fifty acres of Land in the first Division more or less Bounded with a gutter Commonly Called the first gutter on the South Riseing out of the woods westward and running Eastward into the Cove, the Commonage or highway on the Westward side the falls River and falls Cove on the North and the Eastward side Bounded with the Cove the meadow Land being Nine and twenty acres more or less scituate Lying and being in Eight mile meadow and bounded Northward with the Land of the said Robert LAY as aforesaid and Eastward with the Great River, and Southward with the Land of William FFENNER and Westward with ye Cove, and also five and Twenty acres of upland and boggie meadow more or less of the Second Division scituate Lying and being in a plaine Commonly called Scotch plain and Bounded on the North or Northward by the Land of William PARKER and the Northwesterly part Running through a Swamp and Bounded Eastward with a River running to the falls as aforesaid, and bounded Southward with a gutter coming from the foot of the hill Westward and Running Eastward into the River as aforesaid and bounded Westward with the Common or foot of the hill.

To Have hold occupie possess and enjoy all and Singular the aforesaid Bargained Sold premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said John his heirs Executors administrators and assigns for ever and further the said Robert doth for himselfe his heirs Executors administrators and assigns Covenant promise and agree to and with the said John his heirs executors administrators and assigns to save and keep harmless the said John his heirs Executors administrators and assigns of and from all former Sales, grants Mortgages and Likewise off and from all person or persons whatsoever that shall hereafter Lye any Claime title or Interest to the aforesaid Bargained & Sold premises or to any part or parcel thereof by the said Robert or any person else by his order.

John DENISON's Deed of Gift to his Son, John DENISON

To all Christian people to whom this present writing shall Come I John DENISON, Sen'r of Stonington in the County of New London & Colonie of Connecticut send greeting &c Know ye that I the said John DENISON Sen;r as well for and in Consideration of the naturall affection & Love which I have & bear unto my well beloved Son John DENISON Jun'r of Saybrook in the County and Colonie aforesaid as also for divers other good Causes and Considerations mee att this Present Especially moveing Have Given and Granted and by these Presents Doe Give Grant & Confirm unto my said Son John DENISON Jun'r my Dwelling house and all my Lands both uplands & meadow Improved within fence and unimproved Lands Lying in Common that now is or hereafter shall be Laid out in Potopauge Quarter belonging to Say-Brook according to a hundred and fifty Pounds Estate with the priviledges and appurtenances belonging to each and every percell of upland and meadow in the aforesaid Potopauge Quarter That I bought of my Brother John TULLEY as doth appeare by a Deed of sale given under his and his wives their hands and seals bearing date the 4th of July 1681, and as it stands upon Record in the Records of Say Brook Liber 1, 141. To have and to hold the aforesaid given & granted Premises unto the said John DENISON Jun'r his heirs Executors administrators and assigns to his & there own proper uses & behoofs for ever freely & quietly to posses and enjoy without any money or other thing whatsoever and further know ye that I the said John DENISON Sen'r have put the said John DENISON Jun'r in peacable and quiet Possession at the afore said specified premises at the Ensealing & Delivery hereof Reserving only to myselfe the Liberty and priviledges of acting in matters & things pertaining to the said quarter as one of the Proprietors thereof

To all Christian people to whome this present writing shall Come Greeting Know yee That I Isaac WATTERHOUSE of Lime in the County of New London in the Colony of Connecticutt ffor divers good and Lawfull Considerations me thereunto moveing Especailly for and in Consideration of that True Love and Naturall affection that I bear unto my Son in Law Joseph LOTHROPE and my daughter Elizabeth his wife of Norwich in the County and Colony aforesaid Have and Doe by these presents Give, Grant, Aliene Enfeoff and Confirm unto him my said Son in Law Joseph LOTHROPE all That Tract of Land or Lands That is derived to me by vertue of my now wife Sarah ffrom my Honored ffather in Law William PRATT his Estate Which Lands are cittuate Lying and being within the Township of Say-Brook att a place Commonly Called and known by the mae of Patecounk. The value thereof in my Honored ffather in Law. Inventory Being Ten Pounds: and Confirmed to me in Right of my wife as will appear under the hands of his Executor Ensign John PRATT and Mr. Joseph PRATT Sen'r and upon the Records of Say-Brook and the Divisions of said Lands and Boundaries will appear in the Records of Say-Brooke Ct. To Have and to hold Possess Occupie and Enjoy To him the said LOTHROPE his heirs Executors and assigns in fee Simple ffor ever with all the priviledges and appurtenances whatsoever: and not at any time to be brought in or accounted to him the said LOTHROPE as any Part or Parcell of his wifes Elizabeths Portion out of my Estate without any Lett hinderence or molestation from mee or any by or from or under mee, and for a more full and ample Confirmation of the premises I have hereunto sett my hand and affixed my Seal this 29th Day of December 1698.

Whereas there hath been Some Difference Between David PARKER, Stephen POST & Thomas DUNK aboute the Bounds of their Land belonging to the Calves pasture & Planting field. These are to signifie that we the said PARKER POST & s'd DUNK Doe agree for ourselves our heirs & assigns as followeth viz: That the Bounds Between s'd PARKER & s'd DUNK is a straight Line from the meerston at the Northeast Corner of said PARKER's orchard over the meadow to the meerston on theupland in the Planting field near the place Called Tulley Spring & that the Bounds of s'd POST's Land, The Southeast Corner is a meerston Standing in the meadow in the Line above mentioned & the Northeast is a Chestnut Staddle on the upland in the Planting field which stadle hath a meer ston Sett by it as Wittness our hands this 12th day of March 1708/9

Lands Laid out to Benjamin LYND from the Proprietors

The Lands of Mr. Benjamin LYND of Boston or Salem which Lands lying and being in Potopauge Quarter The Bounds are as followeth, The first piece of Land Laid out by the now measurers Lyeth at the Northwest Corner of Scotch plain and is Length East and West and hundred thirty six Rods and in width at the West End ffifty Eight Rods and at the East End Sixty Rods: The northwest Corner is a stake standing about seven Rods from the Pond, The Southwest Corner is a small white oake marked with BL with stons Laid att the Root of it. The Southeast Corner is a Small Chestnut Tree marked with BL with stons Laid att the Root of itt ffrom thence it Runs Northerly Sicty Rods Leaving a highway between the Land now Laid out and the Iron Work Pond of Seven Rods wide In which Bounds there is forty five acres of Land more or less: and Laid out for part of Mr. LYND's second Division of Lands, Another piece of Land is Laid out for the above said Mr. LIND at a place Celled Kelsey HILL and is thus Bounded The Northeast Corner an ash Tree stands in or by a Small Run or Brook which Tree is marked with B from thence it Runs Southerly an hundred Eighty four Rods to a White Oake Tree standing some Rods to the Northward of the head of a Swamp which Tree is marked with BL and stons layed at the Root of itt: from thence it Runs Westward to a Red Oake Tree about four Rods East of the Path that Leads to the New mine which Tree is marked with BL: and stons laid att the Root of it: from thence it Runs to a swamp aboute Eight Rods below or to the North ward of the Bridge that they cart mine over and so to the Brook and to the Deep River and as the River Runs untill it Comes against Three small White Oakes which are marked with BL and stons Laid att the Roots of them: from thence it Runs to the ash Tree first mentioned in which Bounds there is an hundred and Eighteen acres and is Laid out to the s'd Mr. LYND Partly for second and partly for third division of Land ox pasture and Errable & Mowable Land: These two parcells of Land together with one acre and Three Quarters Laid out on the West of his s'd LYND's Land formerly Laid out att griglies point is the wholle of s'd LYND S Proportion for his second and Third Division of Lands in Potopauge Quarter for a Two hundred and ffifty Pound Right: and that so the s'd M'r Benjamin LYND might have Tytle too and Possession of the afore mentioned parcells of Land we doe desire that the Recorder of Lands for Potopauge Quarter would Record these s'd Lands being and hundred & sixty three acres besides what is allowed for mendment of Land To him s'd LYND his heirs and assigns for ever and that we so doe we decare by the Setting too our hands

An Agreement Between the Proprietors of the Ox Pasture and Nathaniel LYNDE

Att a meeting of the Majo'r part of the Proprietors of the Ox Pasture the 2d of ffebruary 1703/4 In order to an Amecable Issue Between Nathaniell LYND and the Rest of the Proprietors for ever shall Quietly Possess a five hundred pound Right in the Ox pasture in Right of Colonell FFENWICK: he being att the Charge of Laying out his Proportion of ffence Belonging to his said Part, and maintaining it for ever after By himselfe his heirs or assigns and the said Nathaniell LYNDE Doth by these presents agree and Covenant with the Rest of the Proprieotrs that he will accept off the said ffive hundred Pounds Right In full of all his Demands out of the Oxpasture on account of Conveyance from Colonell FFENWICK and doth Engage for himselfe his heirs and assigns that there shall under no pretence Whatsoever for ever here after any further Trouble be given to the Rest of the Proprietors by himselfe his heirs or assigns for or Touching any further Right or Claime in the said Oxe pasture:

And in Testimony unto this agreement the Parties above mentioned have Interchangeablely affixex their hands this 2d of ffebruary 1703/4 by which they bind themselves their heirs and assigns forever and doe ? order it to be Recorded in the Town Records of Say-Brook

The Lands of Sam'll CHAPMAN

To all People to whome this Present Instrument or deed of Guift Shall come I Robert CHAPMAN of Say Brook in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticutt in New England send Greeting. Know yee that I the said Robert CHAPMAN as well for and in Consideration of the naturall affection and Love which I have and bear unto my Loving dutifull and Eldest son Samuell CHAPMAN of Say-Brook aforesaid as also for Other good Causes and Considerations me att this Present. Especially moving Doe by these presents Give, Grant Assign make over and Confirm unto my said Loving Son Samuell CHAPMAN a certain Tract or Parcell of Land Lying and being at a place Commonly Called Cooks Hill in Oyster River Quarter in Say-Brook aforesaid computed to be in upland Swamp and madow Seventy three acres. Bounded North West by the highway Southward by the Sea: North East by a Creek, and South West by the Land of Nathaniell CHAPMAN. I also Give to my said Son Samuell CHAPMAN another piece of Land whereon his Barn (which he built) stands of about four acres adjoining to said barn: Lieing and being on the North west side of the highway and also a fifty Pound Right in the Commonage in Oyster River Quarter aforesaid in Say-Brook: all which said Lands with an old Dwelling house thereon and all the appurtenances with the fifty pound Right in the Commonage. Is Computed and accounted by me the said Robert CHAPMAN to be of the value of Seventy Six Pounds in Currant money of this Colony. To Have and to hold from the day of the date hereof all and singular the afore said Parcells of Lands & Rights with the Buildings and ffences and all other appurtenances to each of them belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Samuell CHAPMAN his heirs Executors administrators and assigns to his and their own Proper uses and behoofes for ever without any money or other thing there fore to be yielded paid or done unto my Executors administrators or assigns: And I the said Robert CHAPMAN all and Singular the aforesaid Premises to the said Samuell CHAPMAN his heirs Executors administrators and assigns to the use aforesaid against all People.

Doe Warrant and for ever will defend by these Presents In Witness and Confirmation Whereof I doe in the Presence of these Witnesses give Possession of the premises and to this Instrument sett my hand and Seal, in Saybrook aforesaid this Six Day of March one thousand & Seven hundred and one.

Memorandom the above said Lands house and ffifty Pounds Right in the Commonage is to be understood as part of my son Samuell's Portion

This Indenture of sale made this one and Twentieth Day of January in the Thirteenth year of his Majesties Reign, William the Third King of England &c Between Thomas NORTON Sen'r of Saybrook in the County of New London and Colonie of Connecticut in New England on the one Part and Samuell CHAPMAN CHAPMAN of Say-Brook in the County and Colonie aforesaid on the other Part Wittnesseth That the said Thomas NORTON for divers good Causes and Considerations him thereunto and Especailly for and in Consideration of the sume of Twenty four pounds in Currant Silver money of the Colony or in provission as money to me in hand secured of and from the said Samuel CHAPMAN The Receit whereof I doe hereby acknowledge and myselfe therewith fully satisfied and Contented. This Indenture made the seventeenth day of November in the Thirteenth year of the Reign of our Soveraigne Lord William the Third of England &c King: Between Ensign John PRATT of Say-Brook in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England on the One Part and Stephen POST of Say-Brook in the County and Colony aforesaid on the Other Part: Wittnesseth that the said Ensign John PRATT for divers good Causes and Considerations him there unto moving and Especailly for and in Consideration of ffive acres of Land be it more or less In the Township of Saybrook aforesaid and in a Certaine place Commonly Called and known by the Name of the Old oxpasture Bounded as by a deed of Sale bareing Date with these Presents: the Receipt whereof I doe hereby acknowledge and myselfe there fully satisfied Contented and paid: Have Bargained Sold given, granted Exhanged alienated Infeoffed and Confirmed and doe by these Presents Bargain, Sell, give Grant Exchange alienate. The Lands of Mr. PIERSON in Say-Brook

This Indenture made the Twelfth day of November In the second year of the Reigne of our Sovernaign Lady Anne Queen of England &c Between Capt. John CHAPMAN of Haddam on the on the East &c. In the County of Hartford and in the Colony of Connecticutt in New England of the one part and the Reverend Mr. Abraham PIERSON of Killingworth in the County of New London and in the Colony aforesaid on the other Part Wittnesseth that the said John CHAPMAN ffor and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred Pounds in Currant Provission pay of this Colony as it is now stated to me the said John CHAPMAN in hand secured by a sufficient Instrument in Writeing under the hand and seal of the said Reverend Mr. PIERSON the Receipt whereof I doe hereby acknowledge: Have given, granted alienated Enfeoffed, Bargained Sold and Confirmed and by these Presents do ffuly freely and absolutely Give, grant, Bargain Sell alienate Enfeoff and Confirme unto the said Reverend Mr. Abraham PIERSON his heirs Executors administrators and assigns for ever a Certaine home Lott Lyeing and being in Say-Brook in the County of New London and Colony afores'd Containing by Estimation six acres and a halfe be it more or Less: and is Bounded, South on the highway Leading to ye Meetng house North on the highway by the Coave: West by the Land of Mr. John PARKER Sen'r and East by the highway and the Land of Samuell BUSHNELL and also a Certaine House-Barn and orchard Lying and being upon the Premises in the said home Lott Together with Eleven hundred of three foot and a halfe shingles. To Have an to hold ocucpie Possess and Enjoy all and singular the said home Lott Dwelling House, Barn orchard: With all the Rights Liberties, Priviledge Profitts, accommodations and appurtenances whatsoever of Grass, hearbage, ffruit Trees: Water Watercourses ffences Mines & Minerals, Reserving for the Crown of England what is Reserved by Charter Grant, in any kind or manner Whatsoever to all any and every of the afore Bargained Premises belonging or appertaining unto the said Reverend Mr. Abraham PIERSON his heirs Executors administrators and assigns for ever: And I the said John CHAPMAN for mee, my heirs Executors and administrators Doe hereby Covenant Promise Grant and agree too and with the said Reverend Abraham PIERSON his heirs Executors administrators and assigns by these presents in manner and forme ffolowing viz: That I the said John CHAPMAN att and before the Ensealing and delivery of this Instrument am the Lawfull owner of all and every of the afore Bargained Premises and have in my self fful Right Power and Lawfull authority to alienate sell and dispose of the same as aforesaid and also that the said premises and every part and parcell thereof is free and Clear from all other former Bargains Sales, guifts grants, alienations Titles Dowries Claims Demands and Incumbrances Whatsoever and that the said John CHAPMAN for mee my heirs Executors and administrators: shall and will Warrant Maintain and defend now and att all times hereafter at the Reasonable Cost of the said Reverend Mr. PIERSON his heirs or assigns to give and pass over (according to Law) more full and ample assurance and Confirmation of all and every the above Bargained Premises unto the said Reverend Mr. PIERSON his heirs or assigns as in Law or Equity can be devised or Required and doe Render and give unto the said Reverend Mr. Abraham PIERSON by these presents fful Possession of the Premises by Delivery and Seizin made of all & every the afore Bargained Presmises.

Agreement Between Thomas POST and Alexander CHALKER

October: 3d 1661 An agreement made Between Thomas POST of Mohegan of the one party & Alexander CHALKER of Say-Brook, in the Colonie of Connecticut of ye other partie Wittnesseth That the said Thomas POST hath sold unto the said Alexander CHALKER halfe that farme that was formerly Stephen POST's Lyeing on the West side of Oyster River with all the Rights Titles & Priveledges that doe or shall Belong to the aforesaid halfe of the ffarme: as also all his Right & Claime That doe or shall belong to the aforesaid Thomas POST in Saybrook or the Bounds thereof.

In Consideration where of the aforesaid Alexander Doth Promise to pay the said Thomas: One Mare of aboute six years of age and one hatt to be delivered forth with as also fforty Shillings to be payed either in Corn or Cattel next Micle most Ensuring the Date hereof and unto the true Performance hereof the parties above mentioned doe sett their hands the Day & Date first above written

Agreement Between Ffrances GRISWOLD and Alexander CHALKER

An agreement made the 26 of December: 1662 Betwixt ffrancis GRISWOLD the one party and Alexander CHALKER the other party. Witnesseth That the said ffrances hath sold to the said Alexander all and every part of the Right he had in the farme that is att Oyster River That was Stephen POST's with all the Privileges & Immunities thereto belonging with full warrantee against me or mine heirs or any other that shall lay Claime thereto. In Consideration of Sixteen pound Sterling in manner as ffolloweth: In any Good Mercantable Country pay att price Currant To be delivered at Say-Brook Town to the said ffrances or his assigns. To be payed att three Payments the ? att next michemas next Ensueing the Date hereof and that this is the true Intent of our agreement we sett to our hands the Day and date above written Tested

Whereas was given by the Proprietors of Potopauge Quarter to John WEBB deceased Six acres of Land: and the said Land not being Recorded to him in his Lifetime Att a meeting of the Proprietors of Potopauge Quarter at Say-Brook at the House of Capt. John CLARK: March 14th 1703/4 it was voated and agreed by them that the said six acres of Land shoud be Recorded to him It being or is Bounded South with the Land of Mr. Robert LAY West with the Common North with the highway that Leads to the meadow: East with the Common:

March 14th 1704 The Bounds of a parcell of Land Laid out for Jhn WEBB. one the West Side of Millston hill Containing Ten acres is as followeth, Beginning at a Chestnut Tree slooping towards the East, marked and running one the West side of the Swamp Ten Chains to Southerly end of the swamp to a stake with a heap of stons by it, and from thence Easterly Twelve Chaines to a Walnut stadle marked and from thence Westerly Eight Chains to a Red Oake Tree: and from thence Ten Chaines to the fore mentioned Tree Which is the Northwest Corner of the Land Laid out by us measurers.

David BULL's covenant with his wife, Hannah BULL, sister of John CHAPMAN

This Indenture made the five and twentieth day of Aprill in the ffourth year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord Jaems the second King of England, Scotland ffrance and Ireland Defender of the faith &c Between David BULL of Saybrook in the County of New London in New England on the one part: and John CHAPMAN Esqr, of Say-Brook aforesaid on the other part. WITTNESSETH That as Well for and in Consideration of a marriage already had and solemnized Between the said David and Hannah now wife of the said David BULL and Sister of the said John CHAPMAN Esquire as for the great good will Love and affection which the David hath and Beareth to the said Hannah his wife and to the Intent that the House and Home lott of Land and fruit Trees hereafter in these Presents specified shall Come and Continue in the Issue of the said David and Hannah in such sort manner and form as hereafter in these Presents is Expressed mentioned & declared: It is Covenanted Granted Condescended, Concluded, and fully agreed upon by and between the said Parties to these presents in manner and forme following: and the said David BULL for the Consideration aforesaid doth Covenant grant & Promise for himself &c To and with the said John CHAPMAN Esqr his &c: by these Presents That he the said David BULL shall stand and be seized of that his house and home lott of Land and fruit Trees and other appurtenances there unto belonging scituate Lyeing & being in the Town Plat of Say-Brook, Being bounded Eastward with the Land of John BULL: and Bounded South ward & Westward & Northward with highwaies. To the use and behoofe of the said David BULL for the term of his naturall Life: and after his decease to the use and Behoofe of the said Hannah BULL now wife of the said David BULL ffor the Term of her naturall Life: and after her desease to the use and Behoofe of the heirs of the body of the said David BULL or the body of the said Hannah Lawfully begotten and for default of such Issue to the Right heirs of the said David BULL for ever.

The Lands of Leftenant William PRATT,

Bought of William DUDLEY in the towne of Saybrook a certain dwelling house & barn together with a home lott of an ack, and 3 quarters abuteing on the east to the lote of Abram POST, west and north abuteing to the highways.

2d nine ack, of plowland lying and being in the field called the thousand acres bounded on the east by the highway on the west and on the north with the lands of William LORD and on the South with a highway all which house and lads as abovesaid is alienated sold and made over to the said Will PRATT as doth more fully appear by a deed of sale given under the said DUDLEY's hand dated the 16th of January 1663.

Land of Leftenant William PRATT bought of Richard TOOSLAND of Saybrook 6 ack. of upland lying and being in the field called the planting field it abuteing on the South to the field called the Calves paster on the east upon the lands of Thomas DUNK and on the north to the highway in the planting field on the west upon the great lean which parsill of land the said Richard TOOSLAND hath alienated sold and made over to the said William PRATT as doth more fully appear by a deed of sale given under his hand dated the tenth day of March 1672.

Lands of John PRATT

The abovesaid house and land bought of William DUDLEY and Richard TOOSLAND an given and made over by William PRATT unto John PRATT his son as appeareth in the bills of sale.

Lands of John PRATT bought of Mr. Thomas BUCKINGHAM the 4th of September 1672, Seven ackers more or less in the field commonly called the thousand acres abuteing on the north to the highway to Oyster River on the west to the land of Edward SHIPTON on the South to the lands of John WESTALL on the east to the lands of Joseph INGAM,

Another parsell of four acres more or less lying in the field commonly called the thousand acres abuteing on the north to the highway to Oyster River on the west to the lands of Abram POST on the South upon some common Marsh on the east to the land of Richard TOOSLAND.

Meadow Land of John PRATT given him by the town at the plumbanks February the 6th 1672, Being five acres of Meadow at the plumbanks bounded South-west with the plumbanks northwest & northeast by the creek and Southeast by the meadow land of Samuel JONES.

Received ye 27th of May 1720, March ye 2d 1713/5 Then we ye subscribers Layed out five acres of land to Jos PRATT which was his due on account of his part of that right of formerly belonging to Mr. BURCHARD in Saybrook in Potopague Quarter adjoining to ye lands of Rob't PRATT & bounded with s'd lands on ye east & South upon ye falls river & west with ye common & north on ye Commons from ye falls River, Northerly 60 Rods & four rods in bredth at each end Layed out by us.
